- Heard at the fines ceremony

"What are you 'sinking about' Sid?"
- Alan Welsh, after Sid kept riding in front to "Think"

Another funny thing was when Sid forgot the punchline to his own joke after 7 "fines". He just stood up and went to bed!

Congratulations and Thank You

A very big congratulations to everyone that participated in the tour, I think we will all agree that it was a huge success! Apart from a lot of hurt bodies I think everyone enjoyed the tour and made a few new friends at the same time.

Thank you again to all our sponsors, without you this whole tour would not have been possible.

Thanks to Pieta for all the arrangements for the tour.

Thanks also to Anita and Kate who had to drive the vehicles between 10 and 30km/h for hours every day!

Hope to see you all back again next year!!

Day 5 - Amashova Race

This morning was a very early start as we had to load the trailers to drive to the start in Pietermaritzburg. We saw the sun for the first time since the start of the tour, it was a welcome relieve for all of us! Unfortunately Sid and Ernst couldn’t take part in the race due to knee injuries, but I’m sure that they’ll be back next year!

Everyone that started the race finished, very well done to everyone.

Day 4 Evening

Tonight we had a quiet night at a restaurant in Hilton, no fines ceremony as we all had to be strong for the next day’s race. We did however hand over the Vital Prize of the Day to Adriaan for being the most consistent rider of the tour, a big congratulations to him.

Day 4

Day 4 again was a very cold, wet and windy day!

Knee injuries (and tequila) kept Sid and Ernst out of the day’s ride. They also decided it would be wise not to start the Amashova, to rather keep their knees intact.

We also had the biggest climb of the tour to deal with about 15km into the day! Pieta and Johan narrowly beat the rest of us up the hill by about 150m!!

Today we only had one puncture, and luckily no other technical problems.

Wish all of us luck as Kolbe and some of the others are going to try their best to do an “under 3”!

Day 3 Fines Ceremony

Sid was again "most fined" person for a second night in a row, it was also the night where the most fines was given out. Congratulations to Alan Westerman and Richard for winning the Vital Prize of the Day for the first day that they finished the stage on their bikes...

Day 3

Day three started with Sid delaying the start for 30 minutes. Because of his antics the previous night he only started to change his wheels when we were about to start, I can see a few penalty shots going his way tonight! After less than 1km from the start, Alan Westerman decided it was a good idea to get the first puncture of the day. After him a few others also had punctures, but other than that no major incidents, except for Kolbe falling over the finish line.

It was an overcast, windy and freezing day, with a few big climbs towards the end of the day’s ride coming into Estcourt. It was also the first day that everyone finished the day on their bikes and we had no-one coming home in the bus.

Below are some photos of the day’s riding:
